Retail Club fashion show sends students down the runway
Bold colors, crisp pleats, genie and ankle-length pants, high waists and oversized accessories grazed the runway Thursday April 15 for the SMU Retail Club’s annual fashion show.

Sophomore Colby Kruger chaired the event which took place for the second consecutive year at Barney’s New York in Northpark Center. The theme was ‘Anything but business as usual’ and the show featured 40 business appropriate looks perfect for recent grads entering the workforce or students preparing for summer internships. The show was completely student styled and produced by Kruger’s committee that included sophomores Helena Yueh, Ali Grace and Alex Wilstrup. READ MORE

Spotted: Kara Ross NYC

I had the opportunity to assist the president of Kara Ross NYC when she stopped in Dallas for the day in April. The agenda: A trunk show featuring Kara Ross’ stunning vintage inspired gems, jewels and clutches. I was pretty unfamiliar with the designer, even though I have been lusting over some killer geometric chandelier earrings on Net-A-Porter for months, but the jewelry collection, which is a Rachel Zoe favorite, is much larger and much more fabulous than I anticipated! The ridiculous (in a good way) selection included everything from fine jewelry that would only be fitting for divas the likes of Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce, to too-cool-for-school gold snake rings, Alice and Wonderland esque clock necklaces, blooming acrylic flower rings, four inch thick animal skin cuffs, and some oh so now clear lucite pieces. Here are some pics of what I got to play with all day!

Have a reoccuring dream where you could walk into Barney’s and pick out any pair of stilettos you fancy, free of cost? Sounds more like a candy store than a shoe department! SMU Style Co-Founder and PaperCity Mag Assistant Editor Christina Geyer had such a Cinderella moment last month when Simon Doonan swooped into Dallas. The fashionable journalist dropped her business car into a rafffle and drum roll please – won! The prize: YSL pumps of her choice!

Spotted: Kim Kardashian at Dallas Galleria tonight

Reality television diva Kim Kardashian will be chatting about beauty at the Dallas Galleria tonight at 6pm. She will be dishing about her fragrance, beauty secrets and more! If you’re krazy for Kim it’s completely free to attend. The saucy superstar will be chatting at the main stage, im assuming near the ice skating rink.

The “Beauty Live Event” will continue tomorrow at noon with another reality television star, Dr. Rey. Dr. 90210 will be giving insider advice about looking your best, unfortunately no on stage plastic surgery procedures though, sorry!

The “Glee” girls sport Vipul Arts bracelets in the glamed out photo shoot featuring the stars of the hit high school musical sensation. Spotted: Nicole Richie launches Winter Kate @ CUSP

Nicole Richie swept into Dallas March 4th for the launch of her first clothing collection, Winter Kate. Hundreds of Dallasites swarmed Neiman Marcus NorthPark to catch a glimpse of the celebrity turned fashion designer and get an autographed Fashion Rules puzzle featuring Richie. SMU fans of Richie and her famous boho style turned out to checkout Winter Kate and the new House of Harlow shoes and accessories available at CUSP at Neiman’s NP.

Spotted: Jane & Judy Aldridge @ V.O.D.

Dallas blogger Jane Aldridge, of Sea of Shoes, and her mom Judy Aldridge, of Atlantis Home, brought their carefully curated collection of vintage gems and jewels to V.O.D. for an evening of shopping and sipping champagne. I snapped some pics of SMU students in the crowd, some must-see V.O.D merch and of course the crazy cool works of art the chic mother daughter duo had on display.

Spotted: Dallas Art Fair

I had the pleasure of attending the Dallas Art Fair this weekend and snapped some pics of my favorite artwork. I’m not an art expert by any means, but can appreciate beauty and creativity.
The Andy Warhol had a piece at the fair in the PanAmerican Gallery. You could purchase “Perrier Bottles” for a cool $250,000 (aka 6 years at SMU).
This image “Empire” shot by Matthew Porter in 2010 caught by eye in Dallas’ Marty Walker Gallery. The photographer teaches at the American Center for Photography in NYC and that image was shot in Brooklyn.

William Campbell Contemporary Art out of Fort Worth had this fascinating piece by John Holt Smith called “Sequence #3.” The artist retrieved this image first by taking a picture of a field of poppies. Then he stretched and zoomed the image time after time until he was enraptured with this particular color sequence, which he then replicated with acrylic enamel on an aluminum canvas.
This acrylic on canvas painting from Dallas gallery Dunn & Brown Contemporary was a mesmerizing optical illusion with a 3-D effect on the eyes. “Spectrum #12″ by Susie Rosmarin.
Former Texan, now New Yorker Rachel Hovnanian captured the stereotypes and conceptions of beauty with a sense of humor and seriousness. Her exhibit “The Power and Burden of Beauty” made the trip down to Texas to be viewed by her toughest critics.
This foam pink thing as I referred to it all weekend is a sculpture by Tony Feher from the D’Amelio Terras Gallery. Its proper name is “Blossom” and it is made out of extruded polyestyrene you can find at a hardware store like Home Depot for building materials. Its simple, unexpected and just makes you smile. Can you imagine having it just chilling in your living room?

Spotted: ‘Students sporting gym clothes, heavy makeup’

SMU senior Sarah Pottharst reports on a trend spotted on campus that might not exactly be runway worthy. “Waltzing across SMU’s campus everyday are a number of women with caked-on makeup, shiny jewelry and a designer purse to boot. When completing their outfits, some of these women decide to sport gym shorts and a baggy t-shirt, leaving the rest of the campus to wonder: Did they get dressed in the dark?”
