Spotted: Kara Ross NYC
I had the opportunity to assist the president of Kara Ross NYC when she stopped in Dallas for the day in April. The agenda: A trunk show featuring Kara Ross’ stunning vintage inspired gems, jewels and clutches. I was pretty unfamiliar with the designer, even though I have been lusting over some killer geometric chandelier earrings on Net-A-Porter for months, but the jewelry collection, which is a Rachel Zoe favorite, is much larger and much more fabulous than I anticipated! The ridiculous (in a good way) selection included everything from fine jewelry that would only be fitting for divas the likes of Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce, to too-cool-for-school gold snake rings, Alice and Wonderland esque clock necklaces, blooming acrylic flower rings, four inch thick animal skin cuffs, and some oh so now clear lucite pieces. Here are some pics of what I got to play with all day!

You can find Kara Ross in Dallas at Cabana, Pome and The Shak at Stanley Korshak.

Fashion Insider: Dallas DVF Event Interns
I can attest that getting your foot into the fashion industry far far away from the bright lights of New York in Dallas, can be challenging. But, every so often opportunities make their way south like this one. Fashion icon and designer Diane von Furstenberg is going to be the honorary guest of the Woman-to-Woman 2010 Luncheon on May 17th. The committe hosting the event is looking for interns to work the event. It’s a one day commitment, but you will potentially get exposure to DVF and the other fashion savvy honorary co-chairs including Neiman Marcus CEO Karen Katz, Dallas art lover and philanthropist Nancy Nasher and Fashionistas Organization Prez Heidi Dillon.
Ticks for the event start at $150, but as a volunteer you get to experience the event for free of course!
If you are still in town May 17th and would like to participate, shoot an email to Amy Walton at awalton@JFSdallas.org.

Weekend To-Do: Dallas Film Fest “Bill Cunningham NYC”
Celebs, directors, writers, producers, talented newcomers and all the movie biz pros came out to the opening night of the fourth annual Dallas International Film Festival, formerly AFI, last night at the Angelika. I look forward to this event every year and have had it marked in my planner since they announced the dates almost a year ago. The festival, previously associated with the American Film Institute, is for its first year independent. Without the backbone of AFI, many film followers have been weary of the success and turnout of the cultural contribution that is insurmountable to the growth of Dallas arts, but the atmosphere and crowd of the opening night showed no sign of any blunder.
I had the opportunity to checkout the second ever screening (the first was last week at the MOMA in NYC) of the documentary directed by Richard Press “Bill Cunningham New York.” I am a little bias, because I went into the film already being a huge fan of the iconic New York Times fashion and street style photographer (I rip out his “On the Street” column and hang them on my desk bulletin board), but for those who have no idea who Cunningham is you will still be in absolute awe of the quality of the documentary and the story it shares. The documentary follows the 80-year-old photog as he finds beauty in everything from the homeless bag ladies of New York to the glamourous drenched in diamonds socialites. Where sometimes documentaries struggle to find an emotionally engaging story line, “Bill Cunningham New York” takes you into the extremely private personal life of photographer – an inspiring life of desired simplicity (he lives in an apartment the size of my car and eats $3 meals) counteracted by his opulent society column subjects. The film screens only one more time at the festival, tonight at 7pm at the Dallas Museum of Art’s Horchow Theater. It is just beginning the film fest circuit, therefore it could literally be forever before it returns to Texas… so DON’T miss it!

Fête Set: TOMS One Day Without Shoes
I kick-off my shoes at bars and dances when the pain of my 5 inch stilettos becomes unbearable, but today my barefootness will not be a failed attempt to be as tall as a supermodel… it will be for a cause I can be proud of. TOMS is asking people worldwide to go barefoot today, even if it’s for as little as an hour around your dorm, to experience life without owning something most SMU students could not even fathom – shoes.
Don’t be afraid of the germs while walking to class, SMU has a highly paid maintenance and campus grounds staff.
